Orion XT10 Classic Dobsonian Telescope

ONLY $750

I purchased this Orion XT10 Classic Dosbsonian telescope in November of 2000, my wife's Christmas present to me. It's seen many enjoyable hours under the stars. For medical reasons I haven't been able to take it out as much as a light bucket like this deserves.

I chose this telescope because of Orion's reputation, and the light gathering capability to price ratio couldn't be beat. I picked a Dobson because I wanted to learn the sky, not have a computer tell me where everything is.

This telescope has a Guen Sheng, 10 inch, 254 mm primary mirror with a 1250 mm Focal Length and is fully flocked from rim to rim. The focuser has also been fully flocked. The rear plate has been removed for quicker cooling. There are magnets on the back of the scope to act as counter-weights. I've cleaned the goop out of the focuser and replaced it with smoother lithium grease. I've added a Telrad finderscope, which tremendously aided me in finding objects. The regular finder scope has been replaced with an Orion 9 x 50, right angle, correct image viewfinder.

There are no dents or defects; this scope and base are in excellent condition, along with a heavy nylon canvas case to carry the scope in. The primary and secondary mirror are both in perfect shape, but because it hasn't been used in many years, they may need to be cleaned. The primary is already center-spotted. I've used a laser collimater, but I found that the laser-Barlow method works much better and really isn't all that difficult.

It has a 2" focuser with knobs for both left and right handed observers with a 1.25" eyepiece adapter. I added Milk carton washers and Easy Sliders to aid in smoothing out the motion, a wooden handle so it isn't necessary to grab the rim or body of the scope or transmit heat through the tube, 3.8 mm Lanthanum fully multi-coated eye piece, 2-sided planisphere, red filtered flashlight, compass, small mirror, and a pair of gloves.

This telescope is currently unavailable new, as far as I can find, and there are very few used ones.

Included are 12 astronomy books ranging from beginner to advanced. See list with links below.
